I made a huge mistake today by leaving them outside for too long. I don’t think they are fertile anymore because they are now really caved in on the other side.
Completely forgot to bring them outside today, shining a lamp on them right now. The white areas have grown just a tiny little bit.
This is a photo taken today. Another egg has started chalking too. This is amazing because I thought all of them would be dead since the eggs had been seriously disturbed. We had previously turned the eggs upside down and left them like that for a couple of hours, not to mention my dog destroying the nest and everything.
This is a photo taken on 5/13/2013. One of the eggs had started chalking already. I don’t know when these eggs were laid so I’m kind of surprised to see this happening so soon. That silver thing is a thermometer. I try to keep the temperature between 90F to 70F. Also I bring them out to the patio for sunbaths during the day when I take my breaks, and of course I mist them before and after the sunbath. I think keeping them moist is the most important thing. I’ve occasionally let the temperature go above 90F so I’m not sure if all three would hatch.
I rescued 3 soft-shelled turtle eggs on 5/8 and I’ve decided to take a chance at hatching them. My cheapie incubator is a plastic food container filled with cotton balls, loosely covered with paper towel, and with a thick towel underneath. I put the container on my ironing board which is right next to a window, so it gets the sun (blinds open during the day) and warm air. This is a photo taken on 5/11/2013.
